Paul W. Sams joined Blizzard Entertainment as Senior Vice President of Business Development in 1996. In this role, he is responsible for the overall management of business operations, including public relations, marketing, administration, operations, and finance.
Sams directs corporate strategy, maximizing licensing opportunities for Blizzard properties, including Warcraft, Diablo, and StarCraft. Additionally, he is responsible for managing the growth of Battle.net? the company's online gaming network. Since its January 1997 launch, Battle.net has grown to be the largest online gaming service in the world, with over11 million active users.
Sams joined Blizzard after two and a half years at educational software company Davidson & Associates, Inc. While there, he served as the General Manager of the joint venture between Davidson & Associates, Inc. and Simon & Schuster, overseeing all business activities, including product development, marketing, public relations, and finance. During his tenure, the joint venture released several popular titles, including Typing Tutor 7, Maurice Ashley Teaches Chess and Extreme Chess. Sams began his career with Davidson & Associates, Inc. as a contract manager in the legal department.
Prior to joining Davidson & Associates, Inc., Sams worked three years for ABC-Clio and its subsidiary Intellimation, which publish reference books and discipline-specific educational software, respectively. Sams holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
