My, my, my… it’s amazing what can happen when you put a little grease on the wheels. In the past week, I’ve been contacted by no less than five authors who want to release some of their work in podiobook form. Great! Now I’ve just got to find the time to make all this happen.
Yesterday, Tee and I gave some preliminary instructions to three authors, ranging from HUGE FOLLOWING to just starting out, who are each starting to record this weekend. Things are about to get busy on the podiobook front…

Blumming great news guys
, made my day that did. I was concerned the whole podiobooks concept would falter once all the current titles have run their course so it’s reassuring that you already have new titles lined up for your site, keep up the good work sir. Can we expect to see links from the dragonpage to these new titles or will they be hosted exclusively from podiobooks.com?, plus the author’s homepages of course.
Could you also tell us if these ‘cast will be self supported or will they have to be financed by ad inserts.
Cloysterpete.
Hey, it’s my extrememly honest and critical (and I mean that in a good way!) fan from the UK…just don’t make the guess he’s in London! *LOL*
We are hoping to run these podcasts ad-free. We MIGHT (and that’s a big “might”) run a plug at the beginning and end of the cast for podiobooks.com, but apart from that, the authors garnering sponsors or running scott free is up to the authors.
Thanks for the support, Peter. And yes, STAY TUNED, there’s more podiobooks on the horizon!
Are these going to be books that were almost published but somehow weren’t a la Earth Core, or work that’s a little more… unpolished.
If we do put ads across all of the podiobooks, it will likely be in an NPR-style, not a :60 spot dropped in the middle for the latest miracle stain-fighter.
Now as Tee mentioned, we have no intentions of stopping an author from getting a sponsor for their book. We’ll likely create some guidelines of acceptability for those authors, as the goal is to get people listening to the book. Adding out-of-context and intrusive commercials is a sure fire way to impede that larger goal.
And for Magess: I’d like to tell you all of the books hosted on Podiobooks.com will be made from professionally edited and polished novels. But I also see this as being “open source”, allowing anyone to play and the cream to rise to the top. I figure there will be a rating system which is community supported. We shall see…
okay to name the side kicks summer and joe…

Thanks, podakayne!
My SF/F/H TV knowledge runs deep, but alas, I stopped watching SNL on a regular basis sometime shortly after Eddie Murphy left (yeah, I’m dating myself).
And yes, AMH is someone I’m working on getting for the show. I’m also thinking of running a poll to see which old shows you’d love to see on DVD that aren’t out yet. I made up a list for myself, and it’s dauntingly impressive.
