  1. Tia Bowman says:

“Wonderland is real. Alyss Heart is the heir to the throne, until her murderous aunt Redd steals the crown and kills Alyss’s parents. To escape Redd, Alyss and her bodyguard, Hatter Madigan, must flee to our world through the Pool of Tears. But in the pool, Alyss and Hatter are separated. Lost and alone in Victorian London, Alyss is befriended by an aspiring author, to whom she tells the violent, heartbreaking story of her young life. Yet he gets the story all wrong. Hatter Madigan knows the truth only too well, and he is searching every corner of our world to find the lost princess and return her to Wonderland so she may battle Redd for her rightful place as Queen of Hearts.”- Cover summary
Frank Beddor's first entry in his "Looking Glass Wars" series is a strong one. He manages to re-introduce familiar characters and concepts in entertaining ways that hook your attention, and he makes sure he gives you a reading experience that will keep you reading, page after page. To his credit, and certainly to the benefit of the book, he utilizes beautiful illustrated art to enhance the story, including character portraits and a map of Wonderland.
I recommend this for Fantasy fans, people who like the original story/idea of Alice in Wonderland, and kids grade 7 and up. If you couldn’t make it through Carroll’s novels, this is a great opportunity to get the Alice In Wonderland experience in a more user-friendly format. Don’t be surprised if you suddenly find yourself, as I did, on the final page of the book, wondering where the time went and what happens next.
