I really enjoy most of the DP and DPWC podcasts, and generally agree with the views and reviews aired in them. For this very reason, I have to say I am very disappointed with the completely uncritical rave that you have gifted to Frank Beddor. Has anybody noticed his quality as a writer? It’s TERRIBLE!! Forget the plot. The plot is fine. And the controversy is not at issue. The story itself would probably be wildly successful…IF it were placed in the hands of someone who could actually WRITE. This guy seems like he needs remedial writing lessons. I guess this is the real issue that I would have wanted you to address - especially considering your show is supposed to advise us parents about reading/writing for our children. Sorry for my negative rant, but I really was unimpressed. There must be many more aspiring authors who deserve this kind of attention much more than Beddor does.
The interesting thing about reading and writing is that there is a lot of subjectivity to it. Lorrie and I both read the book and both enjoyed it. If we hadn’t enjoyed the book we would not have asked the author for an interview. Lorrie and I hope you continue to listen to the show.
