Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan

I have read/listened to a lot of young adult books and I have not found one which captures the issues of sexuality in high schools as well as Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan. The characters are confused about what they want in life, just like in today’s high schools. The only difference is that in this high school it is ok to be who and what you are! The entire student body is accepting of each others differences. It seems that the main character, Paul, is going to find his perfect soul mate until Paul’s ex-boyfriend decides he made a mistake by breaking up with him. Though the main character is gay, this is a book for all to read. Teens will get an understanding that the entire population goes through the same questioning of relationships.

The recording from Full Cast Audio is just amazing. Each character has their own specific voice. All of the actors really put their hearts into their performances. The final 15 minutes of the recording feature the actors discussing their own high school experiences and how it related to the story.

This story is funny yet shows a true understanding of what goes on within the mind of a teen. It shows that it is important to stand up for what you believe in.
