Exchange your used books with BookMooch

BookMooch, the online community where you can exchange your used books for others, has moved from beta to full-release. Lots of features to help you get your list of books in the system quick and easy. I’d love it if one of you bibliophiles out there would give this a dry run and let us know what you think!

How does it compare with SF-books.com or PaperBackSwap.com?

Hmmm… made by John Buckman, the guy who owns Magnatune.com

That gives me hope, because I love Magnatune.

As soon as John fixes the system so I can actually enter my email address with a .name TLD, I’ll give it a try.

So far this site seems like a good deal. There are kinks to work out, like the fact that books are listed by ISBN, so, say you just want a copy of Foucault’s Pendulum and don’t care which printing, well, there’s not really a way to specify “any edition”. But otherwise, you can import your amazon wishlist and then just list the books you’ve got. John plans to keep it fee-free, making money off of amazon links for things, I suppose, you don’t want to wait for. Or maybe a book you see when looking at someone else’s want list. I expect that things like trader ratings and book conditions will get more robust as time goes on. But I’ve already got two requests for books and I’ve only had things on there for a day. http://www.bookmooch.com/m/wishlist/darkmagess if anyone wants to friend me. :)

I’ve been using BookMooch since the first week it was rolled out. I’ve sent and received dozens of books, with minimal hassle. I don’t have experience with other book swapping sites to compare with, but this works for me. John Buckman, the creator, is very user-centered and responsive to feedback.
