Jasmine Parks, known as Jaz to her friends, has recently taken on a new partner. Vayl’s been around a long time. A really long time. Vayl is a vampire and the CIA’s best assassin and Jaz has been assigned to watch his back. So they’re in Miami to take out a mid-level bad guy when they find out he’s part of a bigger, badder plot. While Jaz and Vayl root out a traitor in their own department they gather help from Cole, an adorable local PI, Bergman, the team tech-head and Cassandra, a Seer with a long history of her own. Jaz discovers she has “weird” powers of her own while fighting to protect herself, her partner and her heart.

If you take a little Stephanie Plum and add a cup full of supernatural and a dash more sarcasm you might describe this book. Jaz is funny with her self-depreciating inner dialogue and is totally believable. Vayl is mysterious and sexy and yet unbends just the right amount as the story progresses.

While its not a deep dark paranormal romance, it is a wonderful light read with engaging characters and an interesting storyline. This is the first book in the series, with their adventures continuing in Another One Bites the Dust in December 2007, and Biting the Bullet in February 2008. I can’t wait!
