One Fantasy-Western novel that I ran across in the Locus list of most “chosen-in-reviewers-top-10-lists” is “Territory” by Emma Bull. Sounds like a Magical-Realism take on the whole Gun Fight At The O.K. Corral legend.

Tracy Hickman’s father does a old west tales podcast, that my father; who is eighty likes a lot. Not sure if he does book reviews or not, but the listener might want to look there as well.

territory is one of the best stand-alone novels in speculative fiction i have read in 5 years…..seriously in my top 5.
You guys probably mentioned Tony Hillerman’s mysteries, which are very enjoyable. And oddly enough Louis Lamour wrote a science fiction mystery I believe it is called “The Haunted Mesa” http://www.louislamour.com/novels/hauntedmesa.htm
You could also check out “Wild Angel” by Pat Murphy… fantasy in a Western setting.
