Show Notes: Feedback and Reviews

Voicemail: Tosis from Germany doesn’t think an LCD screen is the ideal device for reading a book; Mick from the Gold Coast enjoyed Tad Williams’ War of the Flowers and wants to know about our take on it; Tim gave Darcy the hardcover HEROES comic collection for Christmas; Eric the Blind Geek wonders about discovering the twists before the characters in the story do; Trampas asks about recommendations for Westerns; Natalie thanks C2C for raising her bar for reading material.

Submitting Listener comments: If you have any suggestions or comments, please let us know! “Cover to Cover” has it’s own call-in line, 206-350-READ! That’s 206-350-7323, or just email Michael with a comment you’ve recorded yourself!

Listener Review: Tim Low gives us a review of World War Z by Max Brooks.

Listener Review: Chris Lester from The Metamor City Podcast gives us a review of The Outback Stars by Sandra McDonald.

Can you do an audio book review no longer than 3 minutes? Here’s what we’re looking for:
* Book title, author, publisher, cost
* Must have been published within the past calendar year
* Why did you like the book?
* What about the book will you remember a year from now?
* Why do you want to recommend this book to other potential readers?

If you can record it yourself and email it to Michael, all the better!

The Library: New this week: Dust by Elizabeth Bear; Elom by William H. Drinkard; Lamplighter by D. M. Cornish; Season of the Witch by Natasha Mostert; From Dead to Worse by Charlaine Harris; Victory Conditions by Elizabeth Moon; CSI: In Extremis by Ken Goddard.

Don’t forget, you can also comment on books listed in The Library… look through the listings and feel free to post your thoughts and comments there.

One Fantasy-Western novel that I ran across in the Locus list of most “chosen-in-reviewers-top-10-lists” is “Territory” by Emma Bull. Sounds like a Magical-Realism take on the whole Gun Fight At The O.K. Corral legend.

  2. Summer Brooks says on :

That’s exactly what I sent Trampas in email last night :)

I think the interview with Emma Bull and Will Shetterly is still available…. yep, Cover to Cover #272

  3. Jack Jaffee says on :

I am writting a kind of Fantasy-Western story in my podcast. I would love to her Trampas’s thoughts. I am aways looking for input… I know this is self serving post, sorry…

Tracy Hickman’s father does a old west tales podcast, that my father; who is eighty likes a lot. Not sure if he does book reviews or not, but the listener might want to look there as well.

  5. raul says on :

territory is one of the best stand-alone novels in speculative fiction i have read in 5 years…..seriously in my top 5.

  6. webgenii says on :

You guys probably mentioned Tony Hillerman’s mysteries, which are very enjoyable. And oddly enough Louis Lamour wrote a science fiction mystery I believe it is called “The Haunted Mesa” http://www.louislamour.com/novels/hauntedmesa.htm

  7. Summer Brooks says on :

You could also check out “Wild Angel” by Pat Murphy… fantasy in a Western setting.
