I don't share Stackpole's pessimism with regards to the mash-up books. I'm a huge music geek as well as an avid reader, and some of the things Mike said remind me a bit of the arguments against cassette tapes.

Seems the Dragon Page is right, P&P&Z is the start of a new mash-up genre - author Seth Grahame-Smith has signed up to write two further books, the first of which is Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, for $575,000.

Hmm.

Speaking of combining literature with sci-fi concepts, several years ago I read "Jenna Starborn" by Sharon Shinn, which is a sci-fi retelling of "Jane Eyre".

I thought "Jenna Starborn" was pretty well done and it made an interesting read. It certainly wasn't intended to be silly or a parody in the way "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" is. Still, it will be interesting to see there are more literature/parody combinations coming in the future.
