Love for country, family, friends. Love as a weakness, as a weapon, as sex. If anyone isn’t bothered by the level of sexuality, I can’t recommend books 1-6 enough. I haven’t started on the Naamah arc yet. edit

First published in 1992, Stands the test of time very well.And I gather after wikiing that it was the jumping off point for a series as well. Excellent alternate history horror.
