The Kobo eReader

Borders Bookstores will be launching their own eReader campaign this June, complete with an eBook store and the eReader, Kobo. This is the first release of Kobo in the United States after its success in Canada.

The Kobo eReader measures in at about 4.7 x 7.2 x 0.4 inches, and weighs less than 8 ounces. The 6-inch black and white display uses E-Ink technology with no backlight, glare, or reflections. There is a choice of fonts with five different size options available. The Kobo even comes with a quilted back for added comfort and style. The Kobo really tries to mimic reading an actual book and will automatically bookmark your page and will even keep the cover image of the book you are reading displayed on the screen after the eReader is turned off.

Internally, the Kobo comes with 1 GB of memory with an SD card slot for up to an additional 4 GB of space. It supports DRM, PDF, and ePub formats and also features Bluetooth capabilities. A USB port can connect Kobo to your Mac or PC. The estimated battery life on the Kobo can last up to two weeks.

The new Borders eBook store features millions of titles ranging from the classics to modern best-sellers. It can be downloaded as a free app from many smartphones, eReaders, or computers, including Mac, PC, Blackberry, Android, iPhone, and iPad.  A account is required to purchase and sync eBooks with your eReader.

The Kobo  is priced at around $150 and comes preloaded with the Borders Desktop App and 100 eBooks.  Find it in stores June 17 or online at

  1. I'm really excited about the Kobo. I hope it lives up to all of the hype I've been reading. It looks like the Reader for me, if it all plays out right.
