Interview: Mike, Mike and Lorrie talk with Amber Benson about Life After Buffy(tm)… being an author and the differences between working on solo novels and on the collaborations with Christopher Golden.

Amber also talks about how she wanted to venture into the realm of supernatural story-telling, but not following the typical tropes in current urban fantasy trends.

Her newest novel, Death’s Daughter, focuses on Calliope Reaper-Jones, the daughter of Death, who has to step into the role of CEO of Death Inc after her father’s kidnapping.

Interview: This week, Mike, Lorrie and Mike chat with author J. F. Lewis about his “Void City” series, and how the popularity of the first book, Staked, was the catalyst for his getting kicked out of their church.

Interview: This week, Mike and Summer talk with Jennifer Rardin about Bitten To Death, the fourth in her Jaz Parks series. She tells us about how the story and characters gelled, and how she wanted to go in a different direction than most paranormal tales have gone, working more with the urban adventure rather than the strict romance.

September 15, 2008 by Summer Brooks 3 Comments

Small Favor by Jim Butcher

Review: “Small Favor” by Jim Butcher

June 27, 2008 by Brian Brown 1 Comment

Small Favor is a great read and I think that the Dresden Files books are a great introduction to fantasy/sci-fi for someone who doesn’t normally read such genres. It’s a P.I. mystery with magic with strong characters, an over arching plots as well as smaller story arcs that finish up in single book… mostly.

From Dead to Worse: Sookie Stackhouse

Cover to Cover #313A: Charlaine Harris

June 9, 2008 by Summer Brooks

Interview: Michael, Lorrie and Michael welcome Charlaine Harris to the studio, to discuss the newest in her Sookie Stackhouse series, From Dead to Worse. Lorrie has become newly addicted to the series, and Charlaine tells us about creating a world that melds real people with supernatural beings and abilities so smoothly.

We also hear a little about the upcoming HBO series based on the books, “True Blood”, and the excitement about the cast and filming is high.

Bone Song

Review: “Bone Song” by John Meaney

May 3, 2008 by Scott Purdy 2 Comments

If I had to name the style of Bone Song, I would call it Cyber-Zombie Noir. But lest I give the impression that it’s a book about Zombies let me say that Meaney has created a world with a death based Economy.

Small Favor by Jim Butcher

Cover to Cover #307A: Jim Butcher

April 29, 2008 by Summer Brooks 1 Comment

Interview: Just about every show member who’s local to Phoenix dropped by for this one, because Jim Butcher came into town for a book signing. A very well-attended book signing at The Poisoned Pen in Scottsdale, since he was delayed there an extra hour signing books for folks.

Mike M, Summer, Mike S and Brian chat with Jim about the tests and trials poor Harry Dresden’s been put through, and possible expectations of future adventures in the wringer for Harry.

Black Magic Woman by Justin Gustainis

Review: “Black Magic Woman” by Justin Gustainis

April 18, 2008 by Summer Brooks

Black Magic Woman is the first in a new series by author Justin Gustainis, “The Quincey Morris Supernatural Investigations”. It’s a wonderful read, and wonderful introduction to a world that’s all too familiar to long-time readers of fantasy and dark fantasy like myself.

The Kingdom Keepers: Disney After Dark

Review: “The Kingdom Keepers: Disney After Dark” by Ridley Pearson

October 25, 2007 by Darcy Low 3 Comments

What I will remember about this book is how the kids worked together to find the answer to what is going on in the part at night, and how they all became friends. I loved the sci-fi part a lot! How they made the holograms work and how it couldn’t do some things, and even though I don’t like young adult books too much, I really liked this one.

All Together Dead: Sookie Stackhouse

Cover to Cover #264: Charlaine Harris

May 28, 2007 by Summer Brooks 4 Comments

Interview: Michael, Summer, Brian, and Evo are joined in studio with Jim Butcher, the New York Times best-selling author of the hot Dresden Files series, and the Codex Alera series. The newest Dresden files book is “White Night”, and the newest Codex Alera book is “Cursor’s Fury”.

Jim tells us all about what inspired him to create the Dresden Files series, and we have Laurell K. Hamilton, Cast A Deadly Spell, and the first season of “Buffy” to thank for these. We also talk about the television series adaptation aired on SciFi Channel, and the impressions made by rushing the show into and through production, and Jim talks about his hopes for a season 2

March 26, 2007 by Summer Brooks 3 Comments

Interview: Tee Morris joins Michael, Summer and Brian live in-studio to talk about his latest projects: podcasting Billibub Baddings and the Case of the Singing Sword, and how much fun he’s had getting guest voices for the story. Will we soon see a podcast of Legacy of Morevi?
